The RA Sustainability policy stream is focussed on solutions and measures to reduce the environmental footprint of our transport infrastructure, improve its resilience to climate change, and increase its use of recycled materials.

We do this by:

  • promoting sustainable procurement standards and measures and effective waste management solutions;
  • promoting integrated land use and transport planning;
  • exploring options to improve climate change resilience in urban planning and design; and
  • encouraging responsible infrastructure development that meets community standards and expectations.

Our Sustainability policy activites and events are underpinned by our ongoing support for workplace diversity and inclusion.

Key actions for 2020/21

  • Work with the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) to co-develop a policy paper on resilience in infrastructure.
  • Through various forums, promote increased use of recycled materials in transport infrastructure.
  • Publish a paper on best practice in sustainable infrastructure development and operation, and showcase the outcomes at a Spotlight on Sustainability forum.
