About RA

Roads Australia (RA) is the peak body for roads within an integrated transport system. We bring industry, government and communities together to lead the evolution of Australia’s roads, integrated transport and mobility networks.

As the only dedicated champion of the nation's 817,000-kilometre road network, RA provides a platform for industry, government and communities to focus on this invaluable asset, ensuring it is planned, designed, built, operated and maintained to meet the needs of all Australians - current and future - as a core component of our overall transport system.

Our 150+ members include all of Australia’s road and transport agencies, major contractors and consultants, motoring clubs, service providers and other relevant industry groups. Working together, our members are commited to delivering a robust, integrated land transport system that values and supports all modes (private and public transport, cycling and walking) and infrastructure (road and rail).

We deliver some 100 events around Australia each year, ranging from small boardroom-style lunches and policy workshops to major industry lunches and conferences. Through all of these, we provide unprecedented access and opportunities to network at the most senior levels of business and government, and to contribute to practical policy outcomes.

Through initiatives like our Fellowship and Young Professionals programs, we also invest in our industry's future leaders - ensuring the next generation is supported and encouraged by those who have gone before them.

We uphold the principles of a safe, inclusive, sustainable, economically and socially valuable industry.

Our history

Roads Australia has its origins in the Australian Road Federation and the Australian Road Forum, which together have represented the industry since 1952.

In 2005, as the Australian Road Forum, the organisation was officially recognised by the then Federal Minister for Roads as the national peak body of road transport stakeholders.

In 2008 the organisation was relaunched as Roads Australia - a name that better reflects our province as the road industry's national stakeholder group.
